Android 13.0 beta is now available for Genymotion SaaS (Cloud). 

Known issues

  • Using a VPN application may break the virtual device.

Android 13.0 beta is now available for Genymotion Desktop.

Known issues

  • The camera app might crash.

Android 12.1 image has been released for Genymotion Device Image v13.0.0.

It will be available soon for arm64 instances on AWS and Alibaba, and x86_64 instances on GCP and Azure.

Features

Android 12.1 provides the same features as Android 12.0 image. In particular:

  • An emulated Bluetooth stack
  • An updated frontend
  • The latest HTTP APIs

Known issues

The following features don’t function properly:

  • The external storage feature does not work properly, and will be fixed in a future release. Please reach out to our support team if this is a blocker for your use case.
  • adb remount will fail. As a workaround, you can use: adb shell mount -o rw,remount /

Android versions

  • Android 7.0 to 11.0 have been updated to version 13.0.
  • Android 12.0 is already available in version 13.0.
  • Due to their low usage, Android 5.1 and 6.0 have been deprecated and won’t receive any updates in the future.

New features

Dynamic device rooting

With this release, the Android 10.0 image can be dynamically rooted and unrooted. See our documentation to discover how it works. Feel free to give your feedback on this feature on our GitHub discussions.

Web user interface

The Instance information page has been improved with the following items:

  • Cloud provider
  • CPU architecture
  • Hypervisor
  • Rendering technology

In the Configuration panel we have added:

  • Support for rounded corners on Android 9.0 and higher
  • Root activation on Android 10.0

There is a new Device Content page with:

  • A file browser
  • Storage statistics

The following changes have been made to the widgets:

  • Network widget: enable/disable wifi and mobile data. Select mobile network type and signal strength.
  • New Baseband widget: configuration of network/sim operator (this was previously in the network widget).
  • Camera widget: New icon to emphasize that it allows to capture both camera and microphone.

More translations: عربي, 中国话文, Español, Português, and Русский.

System

The following features have been added:

  • Emulated Bluetooth stack in Android 10.0 and higher.
  • SSL certificates are now automatically renewed.

Known issues

The following features don’t work properly:

  • The external storage feature is not operational, and will be fixed in a future release. Please reach out to our support team if this is a blocker for your use cases.
  • In a few cases, the camera image appears upside down. This issue will be addressed in future releases.

Android 12.1 is now available for Genymotion Desktop for users with a paying license.

Personal Use - Free

Genymotion Desktop for personal use is not suitable for trial or POC: you will not get any assistance and some features will be disabled. If you have already selected “personal use” and wish to get a trial license, please contact our Sales at [email protected].

Technical support is not available with Genymotion Desktop free edition for personal use. For more details, please refer to Genymotion conditions of use (Personal Use).

Follow these steps to get Genymotion Desktop and activate personal use mode:

  1. Go to the Download page and get the latest version for your system.
  2. Follow the instructions from Genymotion Desktop quickstart guide to install Genymotion Desktop.
  3. Launch Genymotion and click CREATE to create an account. You should receive an activation email within an hour. If not, make sure to check your spam.
  4. After activating your account, return to Genymotion and log in with your credentials.
  5. Select personal use when prompted.
  6. Read Genymotion Desktop quickstart guide carefully to setup Genymotion for your needs.
